Where we come from
The know-how behind the Hanobox name did not appear overnight. It began in 1995 with data transfer over modems, in the server rooms, network racks and email systems of the late nineties, and it has evolved with every major technological shift since.
When Hanobox e.K. was founded in Munich in 2006, it built on a decade of hands-on experience and one simple conviction: businesses deserve IT consulting that puts their interests first, not those of a vendor or a technology platform.
That foundation has grown with every specialist who has joined us since.
What drives us
We are entirely independent. Every solution we recommend is chosen because it fits your business, your budget and your long-term strategy – not because a manufacturer happens to be selling it.
Where we stand on open source
Open source is one of the most powerful tools available to small and medium-sized businesses. It removes the per-user licence costs that drain budgets. It prevents vendor lock-in, so you own your data and your systems. And it provides transparency: you can inspect, audit and modify the code your business runs on.
We have worked with open-source technologies since 1997 – our first mail servers ran Sendmail and Postfix on Linux – and we have seen first-hand how they outperform proprietary alternatives in reliability, security and total cost of ownership. From Linux and PostgreSQL to Odoo and Nextcloud.
That said, we are pragmatists: if a proprietary solution genuinely serves you better, we will say so. Our commitment is to the best outcome, and open source is simply where that outcome lives most often.
What we do
There are four of us, with experience spanning Novell networks to multi-cloud architectures, one of us here for over ten years. That means you talk to the same people who then do the work – no sales team promising something a delivery team has to make good on. We work as an extension of your own workforce, whether you need a single expert opinion, a multi-year infrastructure roadmap or a fully managed IT environment.
The focus is on consulting, service and support – not on a product catalogue.
How we work
For larger engagements we bring in external specialists – chosen for the subject at hand, and often the same people, because the collaboration has proven itself. That keeps the core team small and reachable while the capacity scales when a project calls for it. Responsibility stays with us: you have one point of contact, not a chain of them.
